Cuba White and Yellow Pages
We have added links to the Cuba Electronic White
and Yellow pages, which are now available on line from Cuba. They appear
to be quite limited in content to institutions and individuals "officially
recognized" by the government (in other words, they are not real phone
directories). You can reach these links through our Links page under the category "Spanish Search Engines".
Spanish Genealogy Computer Program
We have recently been informed of a Genealogy Computer
Program which works in Spanish, Catalan and English. The General
Family Documentation System - GDS, developed in Spain, has recently
been updated to Version 3. A trial version is available for download.
For more details visit our page on Choosing
a Computer Program.
MyFamily.com
Acquires RootsWeb (25 Jun 2000)
MyFamily.com,Inc., the largest Internet
commercial genealogy enterprise, has acquired RootsWeb, the largest
non-profit genealogy community. MyFamily.com, Inc. includes such well
known commercial enterprises as Ancestry.com, FamilyHistory.com and MyFamily.com. RootsWeb is host of numerous free genealogy mailing
lists, bulletin boards, web sites, data bases and search engines, including
our CUBA-L mailing list, the Cuban Surname Bulletin Board and nearly all WorldGenWeb sites (but not the CubaGenWeb site which is independently hosted).
MyFamily.com, Inc. has promised to retain free
access to users to all of the RootsWeb resources. Their press
release, however, indicates that the RootsWeb acquisition will provide
MyFamily.com with "an increase in advertising real estate" and
"will provide increased transaction and commerce opportunities".
Stay tuned for further developments....
